As we can see, winter
is just around the corner and with the holidays and New Years, many of us
choose to wear glitter nail polish: festive, beautiful, but so hard to remove.
Today I decided to write this article about how I remove glitter nail polish.
Warning! I would not use this method too often (take breaks and use normal polish from time to time, because it’s much easier to remove) or, if you still want your daily dose of glitter take extra care of your hands and nails.
Let's do this!
What you need:
- Aluminum foil;
- Cotton rounds;
- Acetone (Yes, acetone! Not acetone free nail polish remover! Some companies add water to the acetone, I don’t recommend that either! Read the ingredients!);
- Scissors.
Steps:
1. Cut strips of aluminum foil about 4 inches wide and then cut each strip into 3 pieces (I cut them by eyeballing it, I don’t measure them, but that’s the average size). Repeat until you get 10 pieces (10 rectangles).
2. Cut the cotton rounds in half (5 rounds, will create 10 semi-circles, that’s how many you'll need).
3. Soak a semi-circle in acetone, place it on the nail and wrap the foil very tight around your finger. Repeat for each finger (You can do one hand at a time. It may be difficult to wrap the foil on the opposite hand.).

4. Wait about 10
minutes and remove the foil by pulling the whole wrap off. If
you feel stinging, itching or any other discomfort, remove the foil, wash your
hands and moisturize your skin!
5. Remove any leftover
nail polish, wash your hands and moisturize your nails and hands (I recommend
some olive oil, warmed slightly, massaged into the skin and then put some
cotton gloves on and stay like that as long as you can . I try to stay at
least 30 minutes).
It's a quick and easy way to get rid of glitter nail polish, but I don’t recommend it too often, because acetone (especially held so much on the nail) can dry your nails and can have some bad consequences (exfoliation of the nail, the nails become soft, sensitivity) .
However, I do believe that this it better than rubbing your nails for five minutes each, so you can eventually remove all the glitter (actually, the glitter particles are abrasive and can scratch the nail a lot).
Everything I have said so far are things I do and use myself, and I would not recommend something without trying it first or something that I do not like, and I haven’t had problems with the products and techniques I used till now. But everything works and reacts differently for each person. Take care of yourself accordingly!
Have a wonderful day!
